Opéra : Lucia di Lammermoor

A memorable production and a highlight of bel canto!

A flamboyant drama, *Lucia* explores oppression and the fragility of reason in the face of injustice. Donizetti weaves melodies that conceal devastating emotional intensity beneath a veneer of formal elegance. The work, premiered in 1835 at the San Carlo in Naples, has been performedby the greatest sopranos in the history of opera, and Lucia, nearly two centuries later, retains all its power and modernity.

All opera lovers eagerly and eagerly await Lucia’s famous mad scene—an iconic scene in which the voice is no longer an instrument but a breath of life— just like the grand sextet in the second act, which foreshadows Verdi’s grand ensemble pieces.

The production, premiered at the Rennes Opera in February 2026, has been showered with praise— Starting with Simon Delétang’s refined staging and a cast that effortlessly rises to every bel canto challenge.
