Unprecedented in its design and the history that marked its construction, Lac du Der is recognized as one of Europe?s largest lakes, and an integral part of the Marne and Haute-Marne landscape.
In 1974, after 10 years of gigantic construction work, Lac du Der was born in the heart of the Champagne region. The lake is first and foremost a reservoir designed to regulate water levels in the Marne River, which feeds the Seine. Indispensable for cushioning floods and feeding rivers during low-water periods, Lac du Der offers breathtaking scenery throughout the year.
