Provenchères-sur-Meuse is a member of the association of 9 villages that make up the Val de Meuse commune, along with Montigny le Roi (village center), Meuse, Maulain, Epinant, Lécourt, Lénizeul, Ravennefontaines and Récourt. Founded in 1972, the commune has over 2,000 inhabitants and covers an area of over 7,700 hectares. The etymology of the village of Provenchères comes from the Latin "pervinca", meaning a place where periwinkles grow.
