Montigny le Roi (village center) is part of the association of 9 villages that make up the Val de Meuse commune, along with Meuse, Epinant, Lécourt, Lénizeul, Maulain, Provenchères-sur-Meuse, Ravennefontaines and Récourt. Founded in 1972, the commune has over 2,000 inhabitants and covers an area of over 7,700 hectares. Montigny-le-Roi, whose territory is crossed by two Roman roads, was first a resort before becoming a priory at the end of the 10th century.
