La Boutique

In this alley, on the left, we see a typical late 19th-century blacksmith?s and cutler?s dwelling.
At the rear, the garden is much longer than it is wide. It provided a significant proportion of the vegetables needed to feed the family.
At the far end is the knifemaker?s workshop. To benefit from maximum light, it faces south. It features large bay windows behind which the workbench is positioned.

In a corner, there was usually a space reserved for the forge, marked by the presence of a fireplace. This workshop is known as the "boutique". However, it was not a sales area, but the place where the craftsman worked. Sometimes, the workshop was located in the living area of the house.
