Many workers from the famous Tréfousse glove factory were buried in this cemetery, as were English and American soldiers killed in the First World War. The cemetery also features several war memorials dedicated to Prussian soldiers from 1870, soldiers from two Chaumont regiments (the 21st RIC and the 109th RI), and American soldiers from 1918.
A stele (a tombstone bearing the town?s coat of arms and those of the American Republic) commemorates the existence of the former cemetery (decided in 1923), as does a marble plaque on a pillar inside the church.
552 American bodies were buried and exhumed in September 1920, to be repatriated to their country of origin or reburied in a large US cemetery in France.
