Maison à la vierge d'Auberive

Originally built with a single first floor on land belonging to the Abbey, this house was raised by one storey in 1865. On this occasion, the openings were enlarged and the pediment of the entrance door was adorned with a Madonna, undoubtedly taken from a building belonging to the Abbey that had been demolished in preparation for its conversion into a prison. This group, once polychrome, depicts the Virgin and Child. It stands in front of a flamboyant Gothic stained-glass window, above an altar covered with a tablecloth and two candlesticks. The whole is framed by two Renaissance columns, once painted in spiral bands, on which are clutched two angels who seem to represent the donors. The whole, which rests on a rough console, is surmounted by an elaborate entablature formed of alternating garlands, interspersed with stylized motifs from the same period: floral bells, beetles and Burgundian cabbage leaves.
