This impressive fortified gate defended the entrance to the town.
Located opposite the present-day police station, it was demolished in 1827 and the statue of Saint-Thiébaut was moved to the fountain of the same name, just beside the Tourist Office.
Imagine a massive gateway, framed by two strong towers, closed by heavy wooden doors and an iron portcullis. Above, a statue of Saint-Thiébaut seems to protect the town. Wide, deep moats filled with water make the city walls inaccessible.
