It is the last surviving tower of the city's fortifications, still surmounted by its traditional stork's nest. The round base, which is the oldest part, dates from the 13th century. The square floors date from the 14th and 15th centuries. It was used as a prison for centuries. It owes its name to alleged witches who were locked up there during the Inquisition.
