À propos
A change in clothing fashions, with the new taste for chiffon shawls, led to the creation of woollen spinning mills. In 1838, the Gluck factory is the first to be established in Alsace and Mulhouse. It moved there in 1867. The 1932 chimney, now purely decorative, is the oldest building on the site, a bombardment having destroyed almost all the buildings in 1944. New sheds with concrete beams and columns were built after the war, then modified, before undergoing a major refurbishment. This space had been acquired by the city of Mulhouse in 1977 in an attempt to save the company, which nevertheless closed in 1983.
