Modulation sur le carré

📍 Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin · 68100 Mulhouse
À propos
Maxime Descombin was a sculptor who was recognised and praised by his peers, whose work knows the paradox of being both public and unknown, because it was kept very early on by the artist himself far from the media and market speculation.

Maxime Descombin was an innovator who worked in different fields: Sculpture (invention around 1950 of the "serial sculpture"), drawings, tapestry, reliefs of colored glass slabs renewing the stained glass, decor and costume for the stage. His writings, often aphoristic, underpin his creation and testify to the depth of his thought. He was also, according to the philosophical requirement, "a great living man".

The serial work is constituted from a simple geometrical form or compound form that relations of opposition, inversion, inclusion, and connections are tied in tension. If the first "Modulations sur carré" (Modulations on square) involve plane squares, from the "modulation n°3", the fold of the square carries in the heart of the simple this structure of inversion which puts it brutally in space and in tension.
