Le canal de décharge

📍 Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin · 68100 Mulhouse
À propos
Its full name "canal de décharge des eaux de l'Ill dans la Doller" allows us to understand its function. The floods of the Ill cause frequent and memorable floods, leaving many areas of land unconstructible. The industrial development and its influx of workers to be housed pushes, in 1846, the municipality to decide to dig the canal, giving work to the many unemployed at that time. Completed in 1849, it made it possible to build the city. Several times enlarged, its partial covering allowed the construction of the market hall in 1908.
