Gueberschwihr

The village of Gueberschwihr was first mentioned in the 8th century. Many nobles took up residence here in the 11th century. A sign of the richness of the terroir, many religious orders and houses were in possession of the land, which they tithed in wine. But this wealth attracted covetousness, and the village was plundered several times during the wars. Today, Gueberschwihr, a picturesque medieval town, is a typical village on the Alsace Wine Route.

Nestling on a hillside in a lush green setting, this charming village has retained its old-world charm and authenticity, and invites you to discover its rich heritage: half-timbered houses, carved porches, remarkable architecture, flowers and vineyards will delight the curious. Dominating the village square, the 12th-century Romanesque bell tower, the jewel in the village?s crown, is a must-see on the Route Romane d?Alsace. The village has been classified as a "historic site" since October 14, 1970.
