À propos
The choir with flat chevet was built in the 13th-14th century. The whole building has been reworked several times: 1508 and 1556 and in 1912. An 18th century organ is located in the building. The Protestant church of Traenheim was built in the XI-XIIth century, but few elements of this period remain: the foundations, and the bell tower. The building is of great archaeological interest with the presence of a primitive Romanesque sanctuary, nevertheless modified and/or restored as time went on. A Gothic window in the southeast corner of the nave is a rare example, almost unique in Alsace, of the unusual location of a corner window. During work in the 20th century, a large quantity of bones were found under the nave and bell tower, suggesting that the church is located on an ancient cemetery or next to an early Christian sanctuary. The tower-porch is the only part of the building to have escaped the works. In 1690 a simultaneum was introduced and the choir of the church was reserved for the Catholic faithful. It lasted until 1913, an existence of 223 years.
