The place has been hosting soccer matches since 1906. At first it was a meadow (the word Meinau comes from "Meine Aue" in German which means "My meadow"), then it became a soccer field. The current stadium was inaugurated in 1984. With its 26,000 seats, the stadium is now home to the Racing Club Strasbourg Alsace.
