Built between 1876 and 1878 to reinforce the southern front, between forts Kirchbach (right bank of the Rhine) and fort Werder (present-day fort Uhrich), the fort named "Fort Ixa, Fort am Altenheimerhof" (1876-1883) and then Schwartzhoff (1873-1919) is a small fort with a Biehler-type water-filled ditch.
