Porte de Strasbourg
À propos
Built in 1679, this imposing structure of pink sandstone, brick and ashlar is the only surviving gateway to the fortifications designed by Vauban and built by Tarade. Louvois, minister to the Sun King, laid the foundation stone and sealed a lead box under the left jamb, containing the minutes of the ceremony, coins and medals.

The old passageway was walled up, and a marble plaque commemorating the 1814 siege of the town, supported by Commandant Schweisguth, was affixed on June 10, 1919.
