La Lame de Marc Couturier

📍 Sélestat, Bas-Rhin · Place Saint-Georges, 67600 Sélestat
La Lame de Marc Couturier
À propos
The second public commission for contemporary art to be installed in Sélestat in 1998, "La Lame" was created by Marc Couturier.

Dominating the forecourt of Saint-Georges church, fixed to the gable wall of a building dating back to the Middle Ages (the former Ecole Latine), a long form stretches out for a calm apparition. It can be violent when the sun hits the gold leaves on which it is covered.

This sculpture is intended to be a "blade" that radiates and illuminates the entire site of the parvis and beyond with its presence. It may well maintain a kind of spiritual dialogue with the works in the Humanist Library, standing vertically on a wall that protected its original background.
