À propos
Established in the town since the 13th century, the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Sélestat was dedicated to training Alsatian nobles to defend Christianity in the western Mediterranean.
Of the buildings founded in 1265, only the "Ritterhof" (the house of the monk knights, built in 1410) and the Prior?s house, built in 1565, remain. This quadrangular, three-storey building marks a milestone in the history of the Renaissance in Sélestat, as it adopts the characteristics of the second half of the 16th century.
The turret door is in the Gothic tradition. The turret?s spiral staircase features numerous stonecutter?s marks.
It is currently home to the town's departments. Visible from the outside. The interior is accessible during office hours, Monday to Friday.
