To commemorate the 85th anniversary of General de Gaulle's June 18th appeal, local hero Joan Beaufort presented the town with this bust by sculptor Joël Vallon _by_djo_. It measures 3.75 m high, 3 m wide, 1.5 m deep and weighs almost a ton.
Why this bust in Molsheim? Laurent Furst, Mayor of Molsheim, explains that "the General was deeply attached to the Bugatti town, which he visited in November 1959, a few months after his election to the presidency of the Republic. This symbol is not a political gesture, but a collective inspiration"
It was inaugurated on June 18, 2025 in the company of Nathalie de Gaulle, the General?s great-granddaughter, and Antoine Broussy, Director of the Charles de Gaulle Foundation
