Puits d'amour
📍 Dorlisheim, Bas-Rhin
· Chemin du Knistelberg, 67120 Dorlisheim
À propos
The love well is located on the Rangenberg wine trail in Dorlisheim, on the Alsace wine route about 20 kilometres from Strasbourg
At the foot of the Rangenberg, towards the plain, the Puits d'Amour is a site from which a natural spring gushes out, surrounded by a freestone arbour and some fruit trees. Located in the middle of nature, this mythical place has been rehabilitated by the municipality: tree planting, dry stone walls, wide sandstone stairs.
His name
Its Alsatian name is Dattelbrunne (the Dattel well) which has nothing to do with its French translation. The origin of the Alsatian name remains unknown. The well gets its French name because according to local rumours, young lovers used to meet in this place full of charm and romance.
Legend
In Dorlisheim, children were told that the stork would fetch the babies from the well to drop them off in houses where there was a sugar on the windowsill. More concretely, the winegrowers would go there to water their horses or simply to get a drink
Access
Departure from the bridge of the grape harvesters to reach the Puits d'Amour on foot.
