The Nouvelles Reines exhibition is built around 16 works by Sandra Reinflet, an artist with an atypical career path, first as an author and then as a photographer. Her work, a blend of writing and images, aims to make visible narratives that are often little heard.
Born in Saint-Denis, where the artist lives, the Nouvelles Reines project is closely linked to the town?s basilica, where the photographs will be exhibited in 2024 before being shown in Troyes. The basilica is the burial place of thirty-two queens of France, and several 19th-century stained-glass windows in the choir, transept and nave are a reminder of their presence and history.
Over a period of several months, Sandra Reinflet met with Saint-Denis residents and took part in writing workshops. Each participant was photographed with a real-life projection of the stained-glass windows of the basilica?s queens on her body: light becomes adornment, a symbol of strength and dignity.
