À propos
This stele is located on the "herbée", a meadow at the edge of the forest which clings to the slopes of the Malgré-Tout. The "Malgré-Tout" being the place where the action of George Sand's book takes place in great part.Text extracted from the novel "Malgré-Tout" by George Sand "Monday September 20, 1869: Good night in Charleville, a little short. I go to bed at one o'clock; I get up at six o'clock; it doesn't matter, I'm as good as new. The weather threatens and clears up. Left by railroad, we stop in Deville; we take a boat and we go down the Meuse, clear and fast until Laifour where we order the lunch in a house of mica schist whose aspect does not allure Toto. The boat goes down again to the Dames de Meuse, where we board to walk a little. What a nice place! It is one of my paradises. We return by boat to the mica house, which is very clean and where we have a very good lunch. Fresh fish, game, exquisite butter. Spelt bread, very good. We crossed the Meuse again by boat, to take the convoy opposite. Small station well located whose station master can be used as a type because of his position. Tuesday September 21, 1869: Yesterday evening, after having crossed the delicious stations of Revin and Fumay through the rain, we find in Givet the best of our lodgings and not expensive: Hotel of Mondor. Remember it. I sleep there quickly and well. Toto is sick during the night; his mother doesn't sleep and they can't go on..." Free visit
