Église Saint Antoine de Padoue

History: In 1868, parish priest Justin-Joseph Wimet arrived in the parish and found a dilapidated church. He set about raising funds to rebuild it, but the project was somewhat hampered by the war of 1870. Work finally began in 1874 and was completed in 1876 under the supervision of Sedan architect Jean-Baptiste Couty. The church was blessed on May 15, 1877 by Mgr Langénieux, Archbishop of Reims. Description: Saint-Antoine church is located in the center of the village and is westernized. It has a Latin cross plan. The two-bay, three-vessel nave is preceded by the bell tower, framed by the spiral staircase to the left and a storeroom to the right. Apsidal chapels open onto the walls of the projecting transept and also onto the right choir bay, which ends in a semicircular apse. The chapels are framed by two sacristies, the left of which contains a cellar and attic. The walls are built of rendered rubble stone, but the quoins, bays and portal are in Dom-le-Mesnil ashlar. The floor is covered with geometrically-patterned ceramic tiles, and the inside faces of the walls are plastered (those of the side aisles are covered with ex-votos). The walls of the side aisles are pierced by lancet windows, those of the gable walls of the transept arms by a large round-arched rose, and the apse by high lancet windows; the nave's central nave features low round-arched arches supported by columns with capitals and topped by four-lobed oculi. The bell tower features a straight-headed portal (found in smaller form in the side aisles) beneath a voussure; it is surmounted by a geminated bay beneath a rose that illuminates the organ loft. The nave, transept and right choir bay are cross-vaulted, while the apse is rib-vaulted. The building has a slate roof. The central nave and transept are covered by a long-sloped roof with open gables, the right choir bay and sacristies by a long-sloped roof, the side aisles by a shed roof, the apse and apses by a polygonal hipped roof and the bell tower by a polygonal spire.
