A founding member of the Atlantic Arc Ports Association, it is one of France's largest ports. Its exemplary geographical location makes it an ideal place for transshipment. It's even the main French military port on the Atlantic seaboard, with 40 gillnetters, 40 coastal vessels and 30 shellfish boats.
In addition to fishing and its new 3,000 m² fish auction, the port of Brest is also active in trade and pleasure boating.
A multi-faceted complex, since it is linked to four fishing ports (Le Conquet, l'AberWrac'h, Lanildut and Landerneau)! Vauban described the port of Brest as unfit for commerce. These unfortunate words provoked a revolt among Breton merchants. As a result, the port of Brest is now able to receive ships of considerable tonnage.
The fishing port of Brest is booming: in 2023, it welcomed some 125 fishing boats, and its auction (inaugurated in 2015) received 2,715 tons of seafood (including 419 tons of octopus) for a sales value of 15.12 million euros, ranking 13th in price and 19th in tonnage, among the 33 French fishing ports listed.
