Exposition - Entre les Rives

The exhibition *Entre les Rives* brings together Marie-Jos%E9 Gustave and Anne-Yvonne Jouan, two French artists who have been based in Quebec for about twenty years.

Paper is at the heart of their artistic practice. Transformed, cut, woven, crocheted, or assembled, it evokes both the fragility and the enduring nature of the bonds between people and places. These structures are complemented by fibers, ceramics, and organic materials.

Originally from Brittany, Anne-Yvonne Jouan explores her sense of belonging to a place through a constellation of symbolic shapes and colors. She creates large sculptural gardens out of cut-out paper, combined with dried plants and seashells. The pieces are given three-dimensional form by assembling them on thousands of pins. The artist draws on her roots to explore the notions of landscapes that define identity.

Originally from Guadeloupe, Marie-Jos%E9 Gustave presents installations made of paper pulp, thread, and ceramic, which evoke corals, seaweed, or fragments depositedby the sea onto the shores of the Caribbean, Quebec, and Brittany. These are fragments of a distant place carried by currents, history, and cultural fusion. Through knitting, crochet, and basketry, the artist weaves a metaphor for otherness: the stitches and interweavings become maps of encounter and plural identity.

Visitors are invited on an immersive journey between land and sea, the visible and the invisible, rootedness and displacement. Through monumental yet delicate installations, the two artists initiate a dialogue in which the landscape is no longer merely represented: it becomes living matter, breath, and memory.
