À propos
Virginie CAPIZZI is a jazz singer, songwriter and pianist who trained in classical piano, then vocal jazz and piano jazz in Paris, after studying at Sciences Po and history. She has long been mixing French chanson and jazz with elegance and fantasy. In 2006, she formed her vocal jazz quartet, exploring a repertoire of French compositions and standards rearranged with swing and poetry: an approach that makes you smile as much as it makes your head sway. Her group performs regularly in Parisian clubs such as SUNSET-SUNSIDE, in series of themed concerts based around the great names of French chanson such as Serge GAINSBOURG, Charles TRENET, Claude NOUGARO, among others, including Yves MONTAND recently, all revisited with a deliciously infectious jazz groove.
Alongside Virginie, Thomas CASSIS on piano (and sometimes improbable instruments like the tubulum), brings a refined yet mischievous touch; he's a versatile musician with conservatory qualifications and a deep involvement in various jazz and chanson projects. A member of groups such as KOBO Concept, he accompanied Les COQUETTES, a popular French comedy group, to the Olympia. He has collaborated with pop artists such as AMIR, Tal and Aloe BLACC on a variety of projects (jazz, funk, electro and musical shows).
Olivier MICHEL, double bassist, has studied in master classes with artists such as Claude TCHAMITCHIAN, Barre PHILLIPS, William PARKER, Steve COLEMAN and the group PRINT. He also studied at the Siena Jazz Workshop (Italy) and took lessons with Christophe WALLEMME. He came second in the 'Bass' 2008 International Double Bass Competition (jazz). His curiosity has led him to develop an eclectic musical universe, ranging from jazz to French chanson and other forms of sound expression.
Francesco MARZETTI is a professional drummer based in Paris, renowned for his versatile playing and active presence in a number of musical groups, as well as for his encounters with leading jazz musicians such as Roy HARGROVE, members of SNARKY PUPPY and saxophonist and singer NAPOLEON MURPHY BROCK, famous for his work with Frank ZAPPA and The Mothers of Invention. He is a member of bands such as 4DB, BORDELOPHONE, Stéphane MANGA, HUMAN BIG BAND, and WILD PRINCESSE, among others.
Olivier and Francesco have already come to play at Les Terrasses du Bel Air as members of groups such as BORDELOPHONE or with renowned pianist Francis LOCKWOOD and violinist Johan RENARD. Their rhythms and deep lines give a solid foundation to their vocal flights, combining jazz and French chanson with complicity, as on this beautiful evening in tribute to the great Yves MONTAND.
The work of Virginie CAPIZZI's quartet is appreciated for its creativity, sensitivity and discreet humour, transforming classics or original compositions into jazz moments where you laugh a little, think a lot, and swing a lot more than you expected. They've found the recipe for a warm, accessible and resolutely convivial live show. Their credo is to get the audience singing along, put a smile on your face and prove that acoustic music can be classy, fun and hugely effective.
