Broadway Rhapsody

An American in Paris, Summertime, Rhapsody in Blue… Can George Gershwin and Kurt Weill be covered in a single hour flat? That’s the mad challenge taken up by Cyrille Dubois and the ArteCombo ensemble. Swing, comedy and a love story: welcome to Broadway!
A theatrical legacy, musicians emerging from their trunks, the ghost of a French lover and his grandson, torn between a love of the stage and heartbreak… Jazz – what a story! Cyrille Dubois – a tenor well known on the major opera stages – plays the young Sam, accompanied by the ArteCombo wind quintet and Michaël Ertzscheid, a pianist and arranger who has managed to distil all the energy of Broadway into a pocket-sized ensemble. In the grand tradition of music hall, the musicians all act out their roles, portraying a delightful gallery of characters centred around Sam. From the most danceable numbers like ‘Stairway to Paradise’ to melancholic anthems, via the burlesque ‘Blah, Blah, Blah’, Cyrille Dubois excels at conveying the nuances of this authentic operatic repertoire by Gershwin and Weill. A truly brilliant musical show, born under two lucky stars!
