Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne

The former abbey church, built in the Burgundian Gothic style, boasts a magnificent Romanesque crypt, the underground remains of a three-storey rotunda built around 1000 under Abbot Guillaume de Volpiano, then partly collapsed in 1271. In an intimate setting, discover the martyrium of Saint Bénigne with its coloured marble pavement and superb sculpted capitals. The church became a cathedral in 1792, succeeding the church of Saint-Etienne. Plundered during the Revolution, it was completely emptied, with the exception of the 18th-century organ. The cathedral underwent two major restorations, the last of which was carried out in 1884 by Charles Suisse. A 93-metre spire was added to the building in 1896, with eight statues representing Burgundian glories at its base.
