At the end of the Middle Ages, the court of the Dukes of Burgundy was one of the most powerful and prestigious in Europe. It shone by developing the most refined arts and the most innovative sciences. In the Age of Enlightenment, the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Humanities of Dijon created the emulation that was favourable to the advent of a Dijon science that was recognised on a European scale.
